Working at our school - challenging and rewarding

We are seeking to appoint a Superintendent to join our team at Burley St Matthias C of E Primary School.

We are a multi-cultural, inner-city school, based in two Victorian buildings separated by Burley Road.  The buildings bring us a lot of joy as they are so full of character and history, and we are looking for a Superintendent who will care for their upkeep and maintenance, but also support improvements where possible.

It is so important to our team that the successful candidate is willing, flexible, diligent and caring, with a pride in their work that means our school receives the best possible support to provide a successful, safe pair of buildings for our children and school community.  No two days are the same!  One day you might be taking care of our outdoor area, and the next day meeting with staff to contribute to developing learning environments in school.

Previous experience of working in a premises role is advantageous, we are looking for someone who can problem solve, identify required works and liaise with appropriate contractors to act quickly and with quality to ensure we maintain our premises to a high standard.  Part of the job is to undertake DIY, decorating and grounds maintenance, as well as supporting our cleaning team where necessary.

The ability to be an outstanding role model to our children, work with an enthusiastic staff team, and deal professionally with all school members, as well as a range of contractors and suppliers is absolutely essential. You will play a key role in ensuring the health and safety of pupils, staff, parents and the wider school community and keep comprehensive records of health and safety/premises checks.

Confident use of a range of tools and equipment is essential.  You will be proactive in ensuring the security and cleanliness of the site and responding to emergency repairs will be part of the daily routine, alongside meeting deadlines and prioritising a varied workload. The role will include some cleaning duties and you will be responsible for the supervision of cleaning staff and their work. You will be expected to ensure a high level of cleanliness and hygiene are achieved and maintained throughout the site.

The contract is for all year round, including school holidays.  We need someone to support the closure of the buildings at 6.00pm, and be available to support opening at 6.00am on an ad hoc basis, your hours between those two times can be discussed as there are a range of options to consider.

We welcome prospective applicants to come and visit our school prior to applying, please contact Sue Hawkshaw, School Business Manager at [email protected] or call the office at 0113 336 7401 to make an appointment.  Application information and forms are available on our school website or on request by email/phone to the school.

Applications need to be submitted before noon on Monday 24 March 2025.  If you are selected for interview we will start contacting your references straight away.
